Matt started 1+1 Cares in 2007, when he was helping take care of his grandmother and saw an opportunity where he could provide a resource to a community that needed this service. He received his BS in accounting at California State University Sacramento and before 1+1 Cares, he worked at Symantec as a Merger and Acquisitions Finance Manager.
“I wanted to create a family NOT just a company to help the community. Our family will make sure your loved ones are their top priority.” Matt said.
Matt loves to help the community as well as travel with his family and friends, and play basketball. Fun fact: He met co-Owner Ray Liu when playing basketball on the same team. They worked at Symantec together and were each other’s groomsmen.
According to Ray, starting 1+1 Cares was the decision to embark on a life-altering endeavor by leaving their corporate jobs to launch 1+1 Cares. He said while their previous jobs paid the bills, they now have the emotional and personal satisfaction of delivering real, tangible help to families and caregivers.
“Each member of the 1+1 Cares team experienced close family members with health and lifestyle challenges. These events had profoundly lasting impacts on us, and opened our eyes to what we wanted to do and how we wanted to help,” Ray said.
Ray, a UC Davis graduate in Economics and Psychology, previously honed his business and leadership skills as an M&A Senior Project Manager at Symantec. Driven by a passion for meaningful impact, he founded 1+1 Cares to revolutionize caregiving. Beyond his professional pursuits, Ray treasures family moments and enjoys basketball and tennis. His vision: a world where families and caregivers thrive.
Kanchana started working at 1+1 Cares in 2015. However, she has been working in healthcare for 16 years and received her MS in health care administration. She said she has enjoyed her experience at 1+1 Cares because everyone is a team player, and is super helpful and fun to work with.
“We are not a company but a family. That speaks volumes,” Kanchana said.
Besides helping those in 1+1 Cares, Kanchana’s life is filled with hobbies. She enjoys spending time with family, watching movies, connecting with friends, and randomly searching the internet to educate herself on different topics every day. She even has a creative side and loves to design photo books and write poems.
Melissa has been working at 1+1 Cares since 2013, and enjoys being able to help families.
"The best feeling you get is when you help a family [have a] peace of mind through a very stressful time,” Melissa said.
Melissa has had over 15 years of experience in management and completed her customer service training on the Telephone Doctor Customer Service Series from ServiceSkils. She loves spending time with family and friends and doing activities such as horseback riding. Her love for animals has led her to have a small farm with rescue animals.
Trisha joined the 1+1 Cares family in 2016. She loves how she is able to help people through her job.
“I've never felt more accomplished or fulfilled in a job up until now,” Trisha said.
Trisha has over 20 years of experience in customer service, sales and operations management. At one point of her life she was even a flight attendant, which may explain her love for traveling and learning about other cultures. She also enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and kayaking.
Ronalyn recently started working at 1+1 Cares in 2018, after ten plus years with another home care agency, two years in a medical staffing agency, and three years in recruiting for staffing firms. When asked what she enjoys about 1+1 Cares, she said the family aspect, work-life balance, culture, and caring team members.
Ronalyn loves to explore and try new things. Specifically, she enjoys traveling to new places and trying different restaurants. She also likes hiking, having family gatherings, and pampering! Who doesn’t love a good spa day?
Eileen started working at 1+1 Cares in June 2022. She has worked in the healthcare industry for over 15 years. Eileen said her favorite thing about her career is that she gets to assist families with taking care of their loved ones.
Besides helping those in 1+1 Cares, Eileen has a variety of hobbies. She enjoys reading, exercising, spending time with family, traveling, and boating. She also was once even a Girl Scout leader!
Cera recently joined the 1+1 Cares team in November 2022. She previously worked as a team leader and eye care advisor at LensCrafters for three and a half years. Cera said she enjoys working at 1+1 Cares because of their goal to provide care and support to families in need.
“Nothing feels better for me than helping others. Working with 1+1 Cares, doing what we do, puts a huge smile on my face,” Cera said.
In her spare time, Cera enjoys spending time with her close family, eating delicious food (ramen and sushi to be exact), taking her dog out, and watching Jeopardy every weekday night at 7 pm.
